Homemade Cajun Seasoning

Jump to recipe

You are going to love this homemade Cajun Seasoning mix! Our favorite way to use this recipe is as a dry rub on grilled pork chops, but it’s great on chicken or shrimp as well. This recipe is also what I use in my Cajun Chicken Spaghetti Squash.  There is probably a pretty good chance that you already have all of these ingredients in your cupboard.  It will definitely save you space (and money) just to mix up the blend yourself!

Homemade Cajun Seasoning details

I’ve used this homemade Cajun Seasoning for years without changing it, but when my son started eating table food I was worried it would be too spicy for him. I decided to leave out the cayenne pepper, and the seasoning is just as good without it!  We use this seasoning all the time, and I felt better letting my 1-year-old eat it after taming down the spice.  Some of you who like things extra hot may want to use 1/2 a teaspoon of cayenne!

One of these days, I’ll be able to tell you that I’m wonderfully efficient and always keep a mason jar of homemade Cajun Seasoning ready to go in the cupboard, but that’s definitely not true. Because I haven’t thought ahead, I always mix up the recipe each time I need it.  It only takes me about 2 minutes now!

I usually throw the ingredients in a small bowl, give it a quick stir, and I’m ready to go. If Cajun seasoning is something you use a lot, then you might want to mix up a triple or quadruple recipe!  Then you can store the mix in a mason jar and save yourself some time in the future.
